What’s a dental implant

The dental implant is a medical device surgically used to rehabilitate functionally and aesthetically loss or congenital absence of one or more teeth , allowing the support of a prosthetic replacement via the direct support of the bone ( osseointegration ) .

The type most commonly used is formed from one or more sections , usually of the form variable between the cylindrical and frusto-conical , and is often provided in its part endosseous of coils or other retention elements accessories . Can be used for the support of individual prosthetic crowns, bridges, up to full arch . The material most frequently used is titanium in its pure form .

Simplified models and smaller ( so called mini implants or miniscrews ) are also used to provide stability to dentures and orthodontics to provide temporary support points ( anchor ), required to tooth movement .
